LEGAL CLERKSHIPS, Animal Protection Litigation
The HSUS seeks several conscientious law students for unpaid Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 legal clerkships within Animal Protection Litigation Section in our Washington, D.C. office. Law clerks will work closely with attorneys and be integrally involved in the process of researching, preparing and prosecuting animal protection lawsuits in state and federal courts. Law clerks must have excellent legal writing and research skills. Although experience in animal protection and/or environmental law is preferred, we are primarily interested in working with students who are resourceful, innovative and productive, and who have a strong interest in animal protection litigation. While a full-time commitment is preferred, we are also accepting applications from those seeking part-time positions, and Interns can arrange to receive course credit. LEGISLATIVE INTERNS, Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Section, which handles all state and federal legislation for The Humane Society of the United States, seeks several interns for the Fall of 2007 (our Summer positions have been filled)to provide assistance on key projects necessary to the furtherance of our goals. This is a great opportunity for law students, political science students, or anyone with a passion for making a difference in the lives of animals. Interns will assist Federal Legislation staff in maintaining updated Hill contact lists, delivering documents to Congressional offices and assisting staff in research; assist State Legislation staff in research projects; assist Grassroots staff in mobilizing membership on key legislative initiatives as well as miscellaneous tasks of an administrative nature. STAFF VETERINARIAN, Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, Murchison, Texas
The HSUS seeks a Staff Veterinarian, either full or part-time, for the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, a 1,300-acre animal sanctuary located in East Texas. This position provides veterinary care and medical management for a wide variety of animals, including carnivores, primates, wild and domestic hoofstock, elephant, reptiles, and birds. Responsibilities include design and implementation of preventative veterinary care programs; evaluation of animal health; diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury; capture and restraint of animals; euthanasia and necropsy as necessary; assessment and design of nutrition programs; and maintenance of medical records. MAJOR AND PLANNED GIFTS OFFICER, Major & Planned Gifts, Dallas/Houston, Texas
We have an immediate opening for an experienced fundraiser for our southwest region, based out of a home office in the Dallas/Houston area. The successful candidate will identify, cultivate, and nurture beneficial donor relationships with established and potential financial supporters of the HSUS. SENIOR ATTORNEY, Animal Protection Litigation Section
We are seeking a Staff Attorney to work with some of the nation隆炉s leading animal and environmental protection lawyers on all aspects of the organization隆炉s animal protection litigation efforts. The Staff attorney will serve as lead and co-counsel in a variety of state and federal court actions, including actions to protect whales, dolphins, manatees and other wildlife, to improve the treatment of performing animals and animals used in research to halt cruel animal fighting and to prevent the systematic mistreatment of animals in factory farms. FIELD RESPONDER, Disaster Services

DEPUTY MANAGER, ANIMAL FIGHTING ISSUES, Campaigns

DATA COORDINATOR, Technology Services
Coordinate and oversee data involving donor information. Act as liaison to the various HSUS departments and external processing vendors. Supervise day-to-day transactions analyses to ensure accurate data information. Supervise the receipt of database updates with outside vendors to receive, transmit, reconcile, and track data including inbound and outbound vendor backend transmissions and codes, end of month processing. Use an IBM Iseries server to import/export fundraising and peripheral database information on a daily basis, including the use of FTP software and commands. Maintain knowledge of all active HSUS programs and methods to ensure the proper reporting of HSUS data. Perform duplicates processing隆陋prepare the lists of names to be purged, review, and merge appropriate records. Use various validation procedures and queries to ensure proper coding/credit for all data. Create and distribute instructions to vendors for various mailings and programs. EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT, Operations
The HSUS is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant to assist the Executive Vice President of operations (EVPO).  Coordinate daily schedule to include meetings and travel, manage all administrative functions, manage phones, oversee responsible accounts and manage flow of payment approvals, maintain highest level of confidentiality, interface with organizations, foundations and constituents of HSUS using judgment and diplomacy in interactions.  Coordinate meetings of senior management.  Monitor expenditures for Operations budgets and several restricted accounts.  Prepare expense reports and spreadsheets on various accounts.  Manage disbursements for Operations accounts.  Interact with accounting staff on budgets.  Undertake projects on animal welfare initiatives as directed and overseen by the EVP. Assist with the administration of external organizations that EVP manages.  Bachelors degree in Biology and/or Sociology would be helpful.  One to three years work experience in an office environment. Must be reliable, able to work independently, have good communication skills and be a team player. Ability to work with deadlines a must. Position is located in Gaithersburg. PROGRAM COORDINATOR, Wildlife and Habitat Protection, New Haven, Conn.
The HSUS seeks a program coordinator to educate the public about various ways to coexist with urban wildlife through conflict mediation and referrals given via: a public assistance hotline; issue-specific correspondence with legislators, advocates and key policy makers; and authorship of publications and letters to the editor.  Position also handles all aspects of administration pertaining to the Beaver Remedies Program which includes proposal writing, billing and contract administration, direct supervision of the wildlife technician, and technical assistance such as helping to install beaver bafflers.  Also, assists in the preparation of presentations for professional conferences or universities and acts as representative of the organization as needed. Performs office management duties including oversight of software programs designed to facilitate the public assistance hotline and to provide a key recordkeeping database, process/submission of timesheets and expense reports for entire office, upkeep of general office equipment and supply stocking.  Applicants must possess a college degree, preferably in the natural sciences arena, and have 1-3 years of related work experience in a supervisory capacity.  Position also requires outstanding communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly with PowerPoint.  Salary starts in the low $30's and offers excellent benefit package.  Send cover letter and resume to: Ms. Pamela Rogers, progers@humanesociety.org, 502-893-9796.
